Exploring Creativity - Episode 21 - Hilary Griffin

Host Rich Pfeifer interviews Madison, Connecticut painter Hilary Griffin on Exploring Creativity. Griffin traces her artistic beginnings to childhood national park trips, later inspiration from living in Madrid and Florence, and a direct family connection to famed Sardinian court painter Giovanni Marghinotti (born 1798), who served the House of Savoy, painted European nobility including Spanish nobles, and was knighted by the King of Spain; his works appear in royal palaces and across Europe. Largely self-taught, Griffin took classes such as a portrait course with Christopher Zhang, learned from local groups, and seeks mentorship. She paints seascapes and landscapes in studio and plein air, moved from watercolor to primarily large oil works, and aims to create serene, restorative images. She co-presides over the Madison Art Society, exhibits in galleries and juried shows, and advises beginners to join groups, attend receptions, and be patient and open to critique.
